Solar Radiation, Heat Balance and Temperature explains how the area heated by the solar radiation increases towards the poles, therefore temperature decreases from the equator to the poles. Altitude of the place shows how terrestrial radiation heats up the atmosphere from below. Hence, the places near the sea level have a higher temperature than the places at higher altitudes.
